Description
Do you like diving? Do you want to share it with others on a whole new level? Take the Divemaster course and do what you like as a professional career. Divers look to divemasters because they are leaders who advise and motivate others. As a divemaster, you will not only dive a lot, but you will also experience the pleasure of watching other divers have as much fun as you.
The Divemaster course is your first level of professional training. Working closely with an Instructor, you will perfect your diving techniques, such as mastering motionless flotation effortlessly, and improve your rescue techniques so that you anticipate and easily solve the most common problems. You will increase your diving knowledge, your management and supervision skills so that you become a model for divers around the world.
As a Divemaster, you will guide other divers when supervising diving activities and assisting with diver training. Whether you want to work in a remote dive destination or close to home at a local dive business, the adventure of a lifetime awaits you.
Rescue Divers who are at least 18 years old can participate in the Divemaster course. You also need to have:
Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care (CPR and First Aid) training within the last 24 months.
A medical statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months.
At least 40 dives recorded in the logbook to start the course and 60 dives to achieve certification.
Please note that equivalent certifications from other dive training organizations may work – ask your Instructor.
Academic
The Divemaster course teaches you to be a leader and take charge of diving activities. Through knowledge development sessions, exercises and water technique seminars, and through practical assessment, you will develop the skills to organize and direct a variety of diving activities. Topics and practical seminars include:
The role and characteristics of the Divemaster
Supervise dive activities and assist with student divers
Diver safety and risk management
Programs led by Divemasters and specialized techniques
The business of diving and your professional career
Diving environment awareness
Organize and direct dives
Make a map of an open water dive site
Conduct dive briefings
Organize a search and recovery project and a deep dive
Lead a scuba review and skin diver course
Assist with Discover Scuba Diving programs and guide Discover Local Diving programs
Your instructor may also offer you Deep Diver and Search and Recovery Diver specialty courses along with your divemaster training to help you meet all the requirements and expand your capabilities.
Team
As a dive professional, you will want to have all of your basic dive gear, including a dive computer, a dive knife, and at least two surface signaling devices. During hands-on exercises, such as underwater mapping and search and recovery, you will use a compass, floats, marker buoys, balloon lifts, and whiteboards. Your Instructor can suggest additional equipment that will be useful throughout your diving career.

You can work through eight sections of knowledge development using a web-based system that allows you to learn at your own pace. You also have access to an online version of the Divemaster Manual for consultation during and after the course.
Another option is to study by reading the Divemaster Manual and watching the Divemaster Video (a bundle with the book and DVD).
